First Windows 11 preview still insists with bloatware

Yesterday, Microsoft released its first pre-beta Windows 11 preview build on its ‘Windows Insider’ program.

Microsoft surprised PC enthusiasts today by unleashing the first Windows 10 preview on the public, nearly two and a half months before the Windows 10 release date. Some of the features are decent, but the other half include tons of bloatware. What’s worse, Microsoft is running a special promotion for Windows 10 in which the first 100 people to sign up for the beta will get a free Samsung S3. That’s right, Windows 10 is so bloated that it’s giving away a Samsung smartphone as an incentive to beta test its software.

I’ve been trying to use the Windows 10 Technical Preview on my new Windows 7-based machine and I haven’t had any luck. To borrow a phrase from another Microsoft product, the problem’s not in the stars, it’s in the updates. The Windows 10 Technical Preview is supposed to be a free and open source operating system that Microsoft is testing on its devices. However, it seems that Microsoft is still using the old methods to install some of the “bloatware” that users are already familiar with.. • Microsoft released Windows 11 a few days ago
  • When we looked at a previous version, we discovered that some applications are present without our permission.
  • Our own survey shows that only 11% are not bothered by this behaviour.

Microsoft has always been a target for operating system puritans because the company constantly bundles unwanted software. They’ve gotten much better over the years, but this behavior seems to be back in Windows 11, at least in the very first design.

Browsing through the first Windows 11 Insider release, we saw that it comes with two pre-built apps: Twitter and …. Candy Crush Saga! Twitter may be good, but I certainly didn’t ask for this ubiquitous game to take up space on my hard drive.

What’s really annoying is that it says these apps were purchased yesterday, but of course that never happened. The message also changes to Bought a few minutes ago or Bought a few minutes ago.

So it’s not true that some applications are bought to hide the fact that we just don’t need them. The good thing is that at least some of them are not installed. However, you will continue to install all applications that belong to Microsoft :

  • Mail and calendar
  • your phone
  • Portal for mixed reality
  • Microsoft employees
  • Xbox Games Panel
  • Power Automate Desktop
  • OneNote
  • Companion for the Xbox console
  • Cinema and television
  • get help
  • Solitaire Collection
  • Sticky notes
  • Windows Terminal
  • 3D Color

At least, judging by our build engine, we noticed that Spotify Music is the only non-Microsoft app pre-installed in the new store. And of course, some of them are family and you need them. There are some applications that will no longer be there.

This kind of behavior is clearly not new to Microsoft. Here are some memories from the past:

Interestingly, our extensive research shows that 11% of new Windows 11 users are not really bothered by cluttered software.

And you, what programs did you find purchased or pre-installed in the new version of Windows 11?
