OneDrive is one of the most popular cloud storage services for Windows. Microsoft SharePoint is a collaboration platform used by many organizations to manage and store documents.

Users can sync files from SharePoint Online libraries to OneDrive for Business on all devices. As of 2018, it is now possible to automatically sync internal SharePoint libraries to a group of users.

However, there are some requirements and limitations for automatic synchronization of SharePoint/OneDrive libraries. These are conditions and limitations:

  • OneDrive’s Files on Demand policy must be enabled.
  • Windows 10 (1709) or later must be installed.
  • There is a limit of 1,000 devices for the synchronization of a given document library.
  • The OneDrive ADML and ADMX files must be copied to specific folders to enable the automatic synchronization policy for SharePoint libraries (as described below).
  • You need to install OneDrive for Business
  • Do not enable automatic synchronization for SharePoint libraries that contain more than 5,000 files.

Once all conditions are met, you can set your SharePoint library to automatically sync with OneDrive using the Group Policy Editor or Microsoft Intunes.

To use Group Policy, you must also have Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise. Learn how to automatically sync SharePoint with OneDrive.
